Dongmin Liu

Professor & Director of Molecular Nutrition Laboratory in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech, USA

Dongmin Liu has completed his Ph.D. at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and postdoctoral studies in the University of Iowa Medical College. He is presently a professor and the director of Molecular Nutrition Laboratory in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise at Virginia Tech. Dr. Liu’s research is primarily focused on identifying and characterizing naturally occurring small molecules for prevention and treatment of obesity, diabetes, and vascular disease, as well as promoting healthy aging. Specifically, his lab has discovered several botanical small molecules for preventing diabetes or its vascular complications. In addition, he discovered a human steroid DHEA membrane receptor. Dr. Liu has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters with total citation of over 11,000 times. In recent years, he has been invited to give over seventy talks at universities, major professional conferences, National Institutes of Health, and industry-sponsored seminars. Dr. Liu has served on various National Institutes of Health study sections and grant review panels of American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association, among others. He is presently serving as an associate editor for the journals Frontier in Nutrition and Frontier in Pharmacology, and as an editorial board member for American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology & Metabolism, Nutraceuticals, and Food Science and Human Wellness. Dr. Liu’s research has been continuously supported by grants from National Institutes of Health (USA), American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, among others.
